HOW IT ALL BEGAN
We are a family run business and have done craft shows and county fairs for over 30 years. NHKettleKorn.com began one night while Bob Bell, a glass artist from North Conway NH, was showing his blown glass at the 17 day "BIG E Fair" in Springfield MA (Eastern States Exposition). At night after the show closed, he would take long walks on the fairgrounds and became aware of that there was no Kettle Corn at the fair. THE BIG E came to a close and the wheels were already turning as Bob left the show. He knew the following year THE BIG E would have Kettle Corn in the New Hampshire Building and so his next adventure began.
Over that winter he would spend many hours doing research to begin NHKettleKorn.com. First he developed a recipe that would blow others away. Then he worked on the process and finally built his own kettle equipment to produce the award winning Kettle Corn.
After many long winter hours in the barn, his plan, his new Kettle Corn machine and summertime arrived together.
We deliberately skipped the process of perfecting the final recipe as we don't want to leave any clues here for the Orrrr-villle Guy. He sometimes follows us around to our shows in search for Bob's secrets of perfection.
That September, NH Kettle Korn set up their special Kettle behind the New Hampshire building on the Big E fairgrounds. The idea was to cook in the parking lot of the NH Building and sell his Kettle Corn in the NH Store. Bobs 14 hour day would consist of cooking Kettle Corn to keep the store shelves full of fresh hot Kettle Corn , work the Store and Blueberry Pie booth.
He even purchased a set of walkie-talkies so Ms Wanda could call him when she needed more kettle corn if he was out on break. That plan lasted about a ½ hour. The public in the building began to smell and hear the Kettle Corn being made outside and wanted to purchase the Kettle Corn directly out of the Kettle. If you asked Bruce, he'll tell you it didn't matter that the bags on the shelves were fresh and still hot. Our customers would explain the whole process is a show in itself. 'This "Kettle Korn Guy" fully clad in a cowboy hat, sun glasses and canoe paddle is the only vendor we stop by just to watch the process We can watch and take in the unbelievable aroma as the Kettle Korn is being made' .
They wanted to see it scooped out of the kettle and into a bag for them to take home. Before long, a large crowd had gathered wanting to get some Kettle Corn for themselves. FREE SAMPLES were given to all those who wanted and a tradition was born. All our shows offer FREE SAMPLES.
Lynne, the building manager saw that Bob could not keep up with cooking, giving out samples and bagging the Kettle Corn so she sent out Madam Willie to help with orders leaving Bob to keep cooking batch after batch. In the original plan Bob didn't need people to help or a money bank to make change and had to borrow both to be able to serve the great customers visiting the NH Building. Since that very first day the business has grown to include three cooks, four Kettle corn machines and three front people attending to our customers. At our shows we can cook batch after batch and go as fast as we can cook and still have people waiting in line for 45 minutes to get the Original and Best Kettle Corn at the BIG E. People will wait with patience because they see us work as fast as is possible to get their orders to them.
From that first day NHKettleKorn.com would become one more reason people vote the NH Building the Best State Building on the fairgrounds.
Stop in to get a free sample in the NH Building at the Big E every September.
A special thanks to all our friends who continue to support us and those from the building for allowing us to become part of the NH tradition at the Big E. ENJOY! Bobby Bell.
